Evergreen Content, Now What To Do With It?

Evergreen content is like a wrinkled shirt you found in your closet you want to wear. It’s still stylish, still fits, still brings out your eyes, but you’re not going to wear it wrinkled. Only thing to do: iron out the wrinkles.

I’ve banged my head on the wall a few times trying to come up with an idea for a blog post. I’ve been there. I’ve also watched brands bang walls against their social media teams’ heads trying to get them to come up with a fresh tweet, a viral FB post, a new blog post. I’ve seen people crack at the pressure of coming up with an idea when they’ve felt all the great ideas have been surfaced before. It’s a sad day when that happens. It’s a sad day when they ignore their wrinkled shirts.

Instead of banging your head against the wall, search for the evergreen content, that timeless tweet, that blog post that feels somewhat unfinished and iron it out. I’m not necessarily suggesting you re-purpose something you’ve written. After all, the idea of evergreen content is that it’s already a solid idea.

Narrow the content, take a different perspective to it, add to the narrative because you likely have new ideas to go with it because it was hung in the closet while you’ve experienced more of the world, more of the brand, more of your voice.

Don’t be afraid to dig up an evergreen when you’re lost for ideas, lost for content, lost for words.

Stay Positive & Reuse, Recycle

Brain: Open. Brain: Closed.

It’s a lot like leaving the lights on in the house.

When pondering a problem – or my personal favorite, pondering how to create a new problem – our brain needs to be in open mode. Open to new thoughts, different ideas, a world of change.

In other words, the lights are on.

However, once we reach a solution, we must put our brain in closed mode. Turn the lights off and leave the room. They say when you learn something new, it only sticks if you apply it. Putting the brain in closed mode is the application part of our mind; it begins putting to action the thought or concept that was created when our brain was in open mode.

Having a closed mind is about being decisive, thorough, and corrective. The manifestations of all great ideas occurred when the brain was in closed mode.

Too often we forget to turn the lights off; our brain is consistently on, running, filtering, savaging way more than the average 60,000 thoughts per day. To that I have to say,

“If you’re not in the room, go turn the lights off.”

3 Ways To Going Green and Your Uncontrollable Office Space

Of course you know various ways to make your workplace Eco-friendly. Recycle, purchase Eco-friendly products, shut all electronics off before you leave, use both sides of paper, etc. These are all simple minded. When you Googled ways to become more environmentally friendly, these actions were just reminders, they were nothing new.

With my experience in working in an office, I began thinking outside of the box. Can you guess what is outside your box? Everything you cannot control.

I noticed that each morning my trash basket would be emptied and a new plastic bag would be placed in it. Everrry morning. All I tossed in it the other day was a tissue and piece of chewed gum. It is ridiculous that whoever cleans the office at the end of the day puts a new bag in. What a waste of plastic!

Here are a few un-thought-of actions you can take to make your office more environmentally friendly.

1. Hide or place a note on the garbage requesting that they do not take the garbage until it is full or if there is no note on it.

2. Snoop in other offices or cubicles and find items that other people are tossing instead of recycling. If you do not think confronting them about making the change to recycling will do anything, stick a recycling bin in their area and make it an effortless action for them.

3. Paper towel diver. If the bathroom at your workplace still uses paper towels, check to make sure all the ones in the garbage are wet and used up. I can’t tell you how much paper towels I have saved by using the dry parts of the ones in the waste basket.

4. Bring plants into the office space. This makes a perfect co-worker gift as well. Not only will the greenery be another step to giving co-workers and clients a gentle reminder of the environment, it also calms the mood of the office. Aesthetics in the office make it a peaceful environment.

Do you have a few tactics to making your workplace environmentally conscious?
