It Starts Today

Starting

Every day can stand for the start of a new year.

You’re only one good meal away from eating healthy on a regular basis again.

You’re only one dead-lift away from getting back on your workout plan.

All that matters is today and if you do what you’ve set out to.

The new year? It doesn’t start on January 1st. It starts when you do.

Pull Back For This New Year

Pull Back For This New Year

Slingshot Into The New Year

I’ve written posts, read articles and talked to dozens and dozens of people about their goals for each new year.

A trend I’ve noticed is how people wait until the new year to start anything instead of starting at the best time to start: now.

If we could just pull ourselves back in the sense of doing what we need to do now to excel in the new year, well, we may be proud of how far we’ve gotten come March and April when others realize they’re better off giving up their goals.

When I say pull back, I mean pull yourself back like you would a slingshot. Prep what you need, start developing the action you want to be a habit in the new year, begin planning the book you want to write.

You see, we have two options right now. We can start working toward our new years goals or we can wait until the new year. I’ll tell you from my experience, those who succeed each year are the ones who started down the path of success early.

The Lizard Brain, Again?

4376727123_8fc3fb172d_z

Yes, because it never really goes away. The lizard brain is everywhere, but the best time to catch it is right at the beginning. The beginning of a project, anyway. Why? So that when it comes knocking again (it always will), you will be ready to dance with it.

Daily I meet people who have things they want to do, dreams, wishes, goals, but don’t start. They are waiting for the right moment, they are waiting for more experience (when starting is the experience they are waiting for), they are waiting to get picked, they are waiting to meet and learn from this person or be referred by that person, they are waiting until the weather is better, or they have more contacts.

They say excuses are endless and reasons are few, but I’m not saying these are excuses. They are very valid reasons. Convincing. Logical. It just makes sense to wait.

What no one focuses on are all the reasons to not wait. This is how you begin to challenge the lizard brain.

The earlier you start the further ahead you are to others. Everyone else is letting their lizard brain win. The experience you want is actually the experience you will get from trying, whether you end up failing or not. The best way to get picked is to pick yourself. The greatest referral you will ever get is the one from someone who never saw you coming. The right moment is now.

It’s not about working your way up a ladder, it’s about doing what you love. And to do that, you have to acknowledge the lizard brain. After that, the rest handles itself.

Stay Positive & Come On Now, Let’s See What You Got

You. Yes, You… Why?

You, reading this, why are you making me wait?

I want it… I want a lot of things actually. I want to see them, read them, purchase them, interact with them, write about them, talk about them, play with them. I want what you have.

Why do I have to wait? Why am I waiting without knowing about your progress? Even worse, why am I waiting to get my hands on something that is already complete?

What are you waiting for?

The right time? The spot light? The spot on QVC? The 9 second reel on NBC?

There are people out in the world and online that are searching for what you have or what you are slowly (yes, I’m calling you out) working on, but they are searching now. Not later, not when you’re ready to deliver, not when you write on your Facebook page that your work is finally available. Now. That’s when they want it.

Simple solution: give it to them.
