I’ve connected with a couple of incredible photographers simply because I noticed their work on the site I grab photos for these posts from.

I’ve connected with others because I looked them up after seeing their work in a magazine.

Others I’ve connected with after a past teacher told me about them.

All of these little ways that I’ve found a photographer worked because the artists put breadcrumbs out there.

They created meaningful work.

They uploaded their content to websites.

They talked about their craft and showed others.

They submitted their work.

Are you leaving enough breadcrumbs to be found?

The work you’re doing now – that’s the easy work.

Even if it feels difficult, it’s definitely not as hard as the work you’re going to do next as you grow bigger, get better, sell more and learn the next steps.

Make the comparison so it helps you in the moment.

People are pretty bad at acknowledging out loud.

They see and feel and recognize the work you’re doing, but they keep it to themselves; their default setting is not to share that they notice.

Because the feeling of being seen and recognized is so powerful, we’re quick to convince ourselves that the work we’re doing isn’t meaningful if it’s not getting noticed.

So I’m here to say that if you think it’s work worth doing, then it’s getting noticed by someone somewhere. It’s making a positive impact even if no one is saying it.

What matters is that we keep showing up day after day, whether we hear that we’re getting noticed or not – because we are.

Stay Positive & Keep At It, They’re Watching

There’s a recipe for building trust with teams, communities, colleagues, significant others, and just about every person under the sun.

Toss in proactive communication.

Mix it with honesty.

Be forward about it.

Serve up some empathy with a cup of vulnerability, too.

Ensure there’s more listening than talking.

And, lastly, add a pinch of purpose.

There’s one type of help that we’re all familiar with. It’s the type of offering help, extending a hand, asking how we can make someone’s life easier.

We know how good it feels to be on the offering end and the offered end.

Another type of help is one that can have a lot of power, influence and positive impact. It’s the type of help that’s given without being asked for.

It’s seeing someone struggle and stepping in before they cry for help. It’s about mentoring people up. It’s about investing more time outside of our own bubble and in the space of others’.

It’s easy to tell someone that you’re here to help them however they may need it.

It’s priceless (for both parties) to opt for action instead.

It doesn’t require a ton to be better.

It may be as simple as giving a phone call instead of an email.

It might be taking one more step forward, closer to the audience.

It could even be giving one more line of praise or proof that you’ve listened.

The more you do, the better you get and the more you can do.

The more you listen, the better you can connect and the more you can listen.

The more productive you get, the better impact you can have and you’ll become even more productive.

The more time you invest optimizing a process, the better the result will be and the more you can go back to optimize.

The steady thread through every cycle of more, of course, is action.

The cycle of more benefits those who turn it.
