Evaluating Busy vs Productive

It’s quite simple: if you can look back and feel fulfilled about what you did…that’s productive.

If you can look back and feel you should have done something else…that’s busy.

Coolest part about this evaluation?

You don’t need to wait for it to be in the past. You can play the scenario out in your head and know before you even start the work.

Change The Source

If you don’t like what you’re feeling. Why? Where’s the source? Can you change it?

If you don’t like the way the team is working together (or, ya know, not working together)… can you pinpoint the source of the tension? Can you change it?

It’s incredibly hard to change the direction a boulder is rolling at the bottom of a hill.

It’s worth looking up to see where it’s starting and see if you can alter that.

No amount of finesse, polish, or last-minute work can correct a project or relationship that’s wrong at the source.

What you’ll find at the top of the mountain is that it’s actually easy to redirect the boulder before letting it roll.

The climb up however, is what sets you apart from the others.

Second Pair Of Eyes

I’ve never heard anyone complain about having a second pair of eyes on any of their work.

Maybe they didn’t like the talk track that came with it, but that’s different than having someone engaged in helping you with your work. The simple act of asking someone for their eyes is the level of accountability one needs to get to “good enough.”

It’s a curious measurement: how much work do you get a second pair of eyes on before you ship?

You probably don’t need four eyes to see that it could be more.
