Preparation & Expectation Reversed

Whoever said “Prepare for the worst but expect the best” was wrong, very wrong indeed.

However, something I agree with – that surely you do to – is that “Actions speak louder than words”. Wouldn’t preparing for the best, be best? Putting forth the effort and action required to prepare for something that will be in the top 10% of greatest accomplishments is what is important. You don’t want to prepare for the worst as discussed in an earlier post (Safety First: The Art Of Preparation) So why not prepare for the best but expect the worst? After all, our greatest moments of happiness arrive when something that was positively unexpected occurs. This means that when whatever you prepared for was a success, you will feel a billion times greater because you thought it wouldn’t turn out that great.

After this, it might be better to start saying that actions speak louder than thoughts too.

Safety First: The Art of Preparation

While growing up one of the biggest influences in my life was my Uncle Chuck.  All I would ever hear him saying whenever we would do something together was safety first, safety first, safety first. Before we pull out in a car, before we lit fireworks, before we hiked, before we traveled, before we did anything it was safety first. This life lesson has been most prevalent in my life and I respect and admire my uncle for teaching it to me – even though it would often get annoying. Then again that just means it’s important enough to be repeated. And it was.

Knowing me, I have to improve every lesson I learn and change everything I listen to and try to incorporate it to fit my life just as you should do with everything you hear. However, this lesson I learned from my uncle of safety first has evolved itself into every aspect of my life in the form of preparation. The best process of safely succeeding and being safe if failure occurs defines preparation.

There has been no art more simplistic, straightforward and rewarding than the art of preparation.

“Let’s proclaim that art has no greater enemy than those artists who permit their art to become subservient to socio-political issues or ideals. In so doing, they not only violate art’s fundamental sovereignty, they surrender that independence from function that made it art in the first place.” – Tom Robbins

At the heart of “safety first” is preparation. At the heart of “preparation” is the transformation of oneself into an outlaw, a rebel. For the only successful artists are those who break the boundaries, status-quo and socio-pathetic expectations. Now, disaster disrupts thousands upon thousands of lives each week. What separates artists from the disaster is not preparing for the worst, but preparing for the best. Contrary to belief, in life there is always someone there to recover you when disaster strikes. The laws of the universe and connection to all things living incorporate “safety first” into all of our lives. This leads to the necessity of an  interrogation that will find out why so many people prepare for the worst case scenario when the safety net has already been placed. (It is beneficial to know that the safety net is placed as long as you accept the consequence of ill preparation)

As any art form that has ever been created, there are dozens of different ways to look at it. Preparation can compensate for lack of talent. Preparation creates confidence which results in the prevention of failure and assurance of success. Positive life impacts come when preparation meets opportunity. Know safety, no pain. No safety, know pain. By failing to prepare, you prepare to fail. Confidence is preparation, everything else is beyond control.

From now on, I expect and will hold you accountable to always prepare for the best. That is all your focus should ever be on.

Stay Positive and Safety First

How To Utilize The Hammer(s) Of Confidence To Nail The Interview

I recently got a promotion at work after interviewing for the Grants Specialist position. Ironically, I was already doing the majority of the tasks for that position since the previous Grants Specialist left. At the same time, a friend was preparing for her interview to be hired as a personal trainer.

Nervousness.

That was the basis of our conversations about the interviews we were going to have. A friend explained how hard she was studying the fitness assessment routines. She would repeatedly practice them, over and over and over. Not to mention, I was the victim. She went over the routines so many times because she was nervous that she would be judged. She feared getting criticized and told she was doing it wrong. It was destroying her confidence.

Persistence and practice though, will not cure you of your nervousness no matter how greatly you have the routine down. The lesson learned with her interview: Interviews are not meant to critique you or to point out the negatives. They are performed to see what you got, to see your personality and your skills and what you have to bring.

Going in with the attitude that you will be interviewed by a critic destroys the confidence necessary to show you are perfect for the job. In order to nail the interview, use this mindset as a tool a hammer of confidence, if you will.

On the other hand, I learned in my interview that I should have rehearsed more and practiced. While I still got the job, I did not feel ready enough for the interview. I forgot that we were given two hands to hold two kinds of hammers.

1st Hammer: Her lesson taught you how to correctly and positively view an interview so that your confidence is at its peak and the interview goes smoothly.

2nd Hammer: While I was trying to teach her that lesson, I failed to learn hers and I did not prepare enough (to my own standards) for the interview.

By wielding these two hammers of confidence, you will without a doubt, Nail the interview.

Stay Positive and Hammer On

WORK: The Big Picture

This post is to be read during the rough work days and before the end of difficult work days. Read Time: 30 seconds

Never get aggravated, emotional, negative or bring home any resentment from work again.

Notice how small everything is in the picture. Especially work. I bet it took you some time to find it.

Remember that your work is a very small piece in a very large picture called life.

You could lose your job but you will be fine. You could mess a task up but you will be fine. Work is only work when you focus on it, but when you view the bigger picture… that fact that unless you are dying, you really can’t say you’re having a rough day.

The Big Picture: Life goes on, and it keeps going on. It does not stop to complain about the bad job you did or to get upset with how much work there is still left to do or how long it will take to do it. It goes on, unbiased, undaunted. If life goes on, why shouldn’t you?

Stay Positive and And Remember Those Three Words About Life

Garth E. Beyer      it goes on

Tuning To Encouragement

I am recalling a quote I once read so that you can end the pity party, funk, or down mood that you may be in now. The quote goes as follows.

“It is all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.” – Author Unknown

With that note, I am going to encourage you to flush now, and flush every morning after today so you can begin each day fresh and with a new outlook on life. We all have times that we forget to flush, but in recent years it seems that more and more people do not flush at all. The lack of encouragement for a positive day, of a successful business trip, of a great day at school or work, of a spectacular weekend, of being more prosperous, of getting healthier, of having balance, and so much more, has made our world into a negative place. As in all negative situations, we have a hard time of getting what we want. Why? Because we live in a world that lacks encouragement!

Why do we not encourage others?

1. WIIFM

Each and every one of us at some point turns on WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) and we forget to tune it back to WIIFThem (What’s In It Them). Every day, we wake up to WIIFThem but even before breakfast we feel that people are blaming us or attacking us, so we switch back to WIIFM. In doing so we ignore others, we retreat, we begin to avoid people. We go at life on our own channel, oblivious of the positive power of others. We forget that of which we put out in the world, we receive. We forget to look at the successful people in the world who live by encouragement.

2. We do not know how to encourage others.

Have you ever searched for inspirational or motivational quotes? You find a whole list, pages and pages, of quotes and you begin reading them one after the other. Possibly by the third or fourth quote, you feel it. You feel this sudden build up of happiness, positivity, will, and the strength to go at the day with all you got. You got the power! That particular quote created a spark in your circuit board and turned you closer to WIIFThem. What you felt, is encouragement.

We have never been trained to encourage others because we have never been taught to understand the different channels, languages, and perspectives other people are on. The best way to learn is through trial and error.

Before I share with you different methods of encouragement, I am going to have to ask you to please flush and tune into WIIFThem.

Steps for Encouragement:

–          Begin with those closest to you.

–          Be aware of what effects and encourages you. Ex. Share the quote that you felt so empowering with your friends and family.

–          Instead of giving others reasons why they cannot, give them reasons why they can.

–          Be there for others. Really, just be there. More often than not, we do not see how much we affect others who care about us. We do not realize this because they are commonly on WIIFM. By just being there, in their presence, know that you are encouraging them.

–          Ask for help even when you do not need it. To be near you and involved in something that you are working on is a great form of encouragement. Too often we forget how much the little things matter and how greatly they affect others in a positive way.

–          Most importantly, tell people who have encouraged you that you are grateful. When a person realizes they have this magnificent power, they will use it more frequently.

What are ways you encourage others?

By encouraging others you are tuning them into WIIFThem. By doing so, you are causing a ripple effect in the world. Let’s make this world a more positive one; you have the power to be the world changer. Remember, what you send out in the world is what others AND yourself receive.

Stay Positive and Solace

Life’s Lottery and The First Step To Winning It All

Reading Time: 3 minutes

There are 2 factors I want to go over. The first factor is the fact I want you to know that I understand how difficult it is to find what you are most passionate about. I know how it feels to want to do everything like becoming a hippie, becoming a UFC fighter, getting a college degree, becoming a vegan, becoming a lawyer, making a million, doing something life risking and the hundred other things you would love to do!

It was roughly two weeks before I created this website that I had my “what is the point of my life” breakdown. I was crashing and having mood swings because I wanted to do so many things. Side note: I might have mentioned it before, but I have over 250 life goals written down, and I have just as many passions. How could a person be happy when they are trying to walk on 250 paths at the same time? They can’t.

It was just last night that my friend was having a mental explosion only to realize that she does not know who she truly is. She wants to do so many things and it makes her feel lost and discouraged that she can’t commit.

I mean, Hermione Granger couldn’t even handle all the different classes she was taking at Hogwarts, even with a Time Turner!

A few weeks ago I had a deep conversation with my brother where he revealed one of the biggest reasons why he has not reached any degree of success or real happiness. He said “I just have too many interests”.

While I point out that the reason we run into this mental tumult is from the lack of commitment, do not think it is the lack of commitment to one path.

The Pick Three

There is an Illinois lottery game called “Pick Three”. Life is like the lottery and the best way to win is to….

you guessed it! PICK THREE!

She could definitely handle and prosper in becoming a certified personal trainer, a fitness model and a nutritionist.

My focus on this website is to advance my writing skills about life, to share my public speaking experiences and to provide information on the relationship between fitness and whole life balance (includes Parkour, my favorite).

Hermione Granger would certainly rule Arithmancy, Charms, and Herbology.

Personally, I know what the top three interests my brother could conquer that would require him to use all of his heart – He could become the greatest new age artist, one of the best skateboard instructors and a pretty awesome military nut.

The point is that we do not need to make a commitment to one thing in our lives. Nor can we completely focus on more than three passions. We are only humans, we do have limits. But, for some reason it’s a paradox, because when we limit ourselves, we become unlimited.

The First Step To Living Your Passion(s)

The second factor is the first step to doing what you love.  There will definitely be a time when you get to do one, two, or all three of the things you are most passionate about.

But for now, the first step to doing what you love is to create a purpose for what you do now – regardless if it is your passion or not.

I don’t particularly have an interest in my data entry job, regardless of the fact I can type 109+ words per minute, my highest ever being 149. But I changed my views and perspectives around to appreciate what I do. I created a work motto that incorporates why I am passionate about my job despite the fact I would like to be doing something else. It is this attitude that has allowed me to create a closer relationship with my coworkers, to be asked to apply for promotional position in the organization and to now be given more time and money to do the things I am truly passionate about.

The great part of this, is that it does not matter your current work position. By applying this attitude, you are making a secret path to do what it is you would really love to do.

Review

First Factor: As humans, focusing on one path in life will either lead us to boredom or a regret for not doing more. Also as humans, focusing on 25 different paths in life will burn us out or we will never follow anything through to the end. The winning number to life’s lottery is 3: Pick three passions. This will allow you to commit until the end because you will have enough energy and it will be enough variety so that you will always be excited and energized.

Second Factor: The first step and the best way to start living one or all three of your first set of passions is to find a purpose in your current career path. Has anyone ever told you that you can’t love another until you learn to love yourself? Well, you can’t live your passion until you find a passion in what you are currently doing. Whether you have to create a motto for the job you have now or simply remind yourself of the “good parts” of your job, I guarantee that with this new attitude, you will be living the passions you want in less than 6 months.

Stay Positive and FYI, The Pick Three Lottery Averages $500,000, But I Am Sure You Will Be Acquiring A Lot More

Buddha for the Optimist

Buddha with $1,000,000 shredded dollars inside. -Toronto

We read and are told endlessly to identify ourselves with our thoughts. We are persuaded to lay down our minds at the mercy of their own power. Walking with the dialogue of our minds. Buddha said “All that we are is a result of what we have thought”. You should well know that he was not the only, Earl Nightingale wrote about it in The Strangest Secret, W. Clement Stone lived it in his quote “Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve”, Bob Proctor and Mike Dooley speak endlessly about The Secret and quite frankly, anyone who has read about someone who achieved some form of greatness, has read about the law of attraction in one form or another.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I learned about the secret -the power of the mind- as a young child. You would think that learning this power at an early age would destine me for very early greatness. However, it created the opposite. I became afraid of my thoughts and I am sure I directed a lot of negative events in my life to occur because once I thought them, I felt it was out of my control. And so it was.

One day, I learned that you would have to think of a negative thought one million times in order for it to have the same power in the world as thinking the opposite, the positive thought, once. From then on, for every negative thought, I would think the positive form 3-5 times for good measure. However, this was not good enough for me and isn’t for many others who know the power of their thoughts. The miracle of our lives would be to never have a single negative thought each day.  Perhaps when enough people learn and understand the secret, we may be able to attain this sort of utopia. But for now the best those who know the secret potential of the mind can do is to teach those who are ignorant of the fact or surrounded by too much negativity to recognize their strength.

Those who feel they cannot control their minds, or are surrounded by negativity, – you CAN escape. While the “thoughts become things” philosophy works for the optimistic, I know it does not work for all, for you… but it will. The following is the most simple and honest technique you can use to understand that although your mind creates the world around you, you create what is in your mind and YOU are the most beautiful, enlightened and powerful person.

The only way to start living the life of the successful, of the strong, of the magical is to remember that while your destiny mirrors your thoughts, YOU are the force that moves through your thoughts, your mind, your body, your spirit, you entity. No matter the thoughts going on in your mind, positive, negative or none at all, you are always connected with your Self and there is no greater or most positive force then that. When you find yourself losing the reigns of your thoughts, when you find the world around you crumbling and your mind falling into a slump, remember that your thoughts originate from your Self, and your Self is pretty damn incredible.
