Three Great Feelings

Relief is an incredible feeling. It’s the yin to our mental yangs. It’s a reset on a positive note. Relief is weight off our shoulders.

Wu Wei is an incredible feeling. It’s personal harmony and free-flowing spontaneity. It’s a state of relaxation, but knowledge in that you have the energy and power if you were to need it.

Sonder is an incredible feeling. It’s an emotion that will change the way you interact with others. It’s complete empathy for another person (and yourself).

Three great feelings.

They’re worth searching for in yourself and others.

What Are We Here For?

Focused Pour

It’s worth starting with that.

No need to inspire around it. No need for a drum roll build up. No need to put it in an email after-the-fact.

Answering the question up front not only brings everyone involved in line together; it makes it easier to move in the right direction.

People In Motion

There’s power in numbers, but only if there’s motion.

A meeting with 13 people sitting in it, listening, waiting to be called on (and hoping they aren’t) isn’t very productive.

A virtual conference with everyone on mute and nearly everyone with their cameras turned off isn’t going to lead to incredible change.

There’s only power in numbers when the numbers bring the power.

Marches, workshops, brainstorms and other situations when people are in motion is where the work becomes meaningful.

If you’re leading a tribe (or a meeting), it’s worth ensuring your people are in motion if you hope to finish with more than what you started with.

Closer To Doing

The leap from not doing something to doing it can be big. (Or at least we tell ourselves it is.)

There is prep work to be done before hand. We need enough time to dig in. The resources have to be at the ready for us to do the work.

That’s why a great goal is to get closer to the doing.

Need to write a blog post? At least pull up the webpage and have it ready for you. Need to send an all addresses email, open one up and throw some fodder inside to attack later. Need to develop a researched presentation? Do a quick Google on the topic just to see what’s there.

There are a million tiny steps we can take to getting closer to doing.

Time To Initiate

Teams Call

“I could have painted that.”

“I wish that meeting had X. It would have made it better.”

“We need an approved-upon process for this.”

Phrases like these are a call.

Perhaps a call to you from someone else or a call to yourself from yourself – a call nonetheless.

It’s a call to initiate, to take responsibility, to move the needle forward and do the work instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

You’ll not only reap the reward of whatever it is you want to make better, but you’ll benefit from others feeding off your invention (and likely building off it, too).

These phrases need to be treated like triggers to act; to pick up.

Provable And Possible

Thinking Pose

There’s a lot that’s provable. Statistical significance and all.

But if it’s not provable, it can often be left by the wayside.

If it’s not measurable enough to move the needle, then it’s not worth the investment – some think.

However, though it may not be measurable does not equate to it not being meaningful.

The possible is certainly a space worth exploring in.

What’s possible that we can make an inference about? What’s possible in connecting a few dots? What’s possible in regard to correlation?

Provable is nothing without the possible. And provable only gets us so far.

Sharpen Before Sending

A project with a specific deadline makes the work stronger.

An email with a personalized intro makes the message stronger.

A mission with a motto makes the tribe that’ll follow you stronger.

Some call it polishing the work, but that’s more for the eyes.

You’ve gotta sharpen it to reach the heart.
