“I could have painted that.”

“I wish that meeting had X. It would have made it better.”

“We need an approved-upon process for this.”

Phrases like these are a call.

Perhaps a call to you from someone else or a call to yourself from yourself – a call nonetheless.

It’s a call to initiate, to take responsibility, to move the needle forward and do the work instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

You’ll not only reap the reward of whatever it is you want to make better, but you’ll benefit from others feeding off your invention (and likely building off it, too).

These phrases need to be treated like triggers to act; to pick up.

There’s a lot that’s provable. Statistical significance and all.

But if it’s not provable, it can often be left by the wayside.

If it’s not measurable enough to move the needle, then it’s not worth the investment – some think.

However, though it may not be measurable does not equate to it not being meaningful.

The possible is certainly a space worth exploring in.

What’s possible that we can make an inference about? What’s possible in connecting a few dots? What’s possible in regard to correlation?

Provable is nothing without the possible. And provable only gets us so far.

A project with a specific deadline makes the work stronger.

An email with a personalized intro makes the message stronger.

A mission with a motto makes the tribe that’ll follow you stronger.

Some call it polishing the work, but that’s more for the eyes.

You’ve gotta sharpen it to reach the heart.

It’s never harmful to the work to ask for more direction. If anything, it’s the opposite.

The more clarity you seek on direction, the more seamlessly you’ll nail the end result.

The more you check in on the direction you’re heading, the less waste you’ll create; in effort, in time, in resources, in energy.

Sure, it’s uncomfortable to ask for more direction – your ego of achieving the goal with as little help as possible as at stake. But so is your trust, smarts, and mentality if you don’t ask for more direction.

Speed isn’t just essential in a race; it’s essential in a journey, but not in the sense of reaching the end.

Rather, speed is vital to overcome adversity; it’s important to be able to support others; it’s important to finish the little things in order to ideate further on the change we seek to make.

To do any of that we have to be quick to learn. Learn from others. Learn from mistakes. Learn from observations and mental calculations.

The faster we learn, the greater impact we can have.

No wonder the game changers in life are avid readers, avid mistake-makers, avid interviewers, avid content consumers, avid partners…

When you give someone a task, they assign a new priority level to it.

This happens with every exchange; projects, ideas, love.

Knowing that, it’s not right to hold another accountable for the work the same way you have.

This, of course, requires empathy of the highest degree.

Emotional labor worth investing in as we collaborate.

Of course it will be awkward if that’s what you intend to make it.

It can be scary, too, if that’s the mindset you enter with.

Otherwise, it can go really, really well if that’s what you’re working toward.

The energy is what you make it.

You change the outcome by changing the headspace you bring.
