Among all of the turmoil we have the chance to start.

Not after this flows over. Not after we’re back to work. Not after someone else gives us permission or signs us on.

Now.

Many wait until a new year or a birthday because they are milestones and make starting a new habit easier.

A quarantine – though there are no candles that come with it – is a brilliant mile marker to start.

Start shipping. Start creating. Start sharing.

But start.

Stay Positive & They’re Waiting And More Ready Than Ever

Those who advance the quickest at work are the ones who are seen the most. The ones who speak up, raise their hand in meetings and walk around the office for person-to-person conversations and idea sharing.

It’s more important than ever that we remain seen. We dress the part and turn on the camera. We speak up even with the fear of our internet connection dropping or talking over someone else. We need to do digital “drive bys” with colleagues, clients, friends, family.

Those who are seen will be the ones who succeed through it all. That’s the way it’s been and the way it will be no matter the cultural shift in work or play.

One of my dearest friends would always tell me “proactive communication” again and again and again. She’d tell me in person, email, on a dry-erase board, etc. Since I took it to heart, I’ve realized the endless benefit of actually proactively communicating.

I think we’re all seeing the benefit of it now, too.

Proactive communication from our bosses. Proactive communication from those leading our states. Proactive communication from those who should have been regularly speaking up before this pandemic.

It’s appreciated. It makes us feel listened to and cared for.

If we’re feeling this way when others proactively communicate with us; imagine how we can make others feel by doing the same.

No fancy title or leadership role required either.

The hard stuff isn’t simple. The hard stuff is hard.

But the meaningful stuff. The stuff of caring and truth and giving and community; that’s the simple stuff.

We’re seeing a lot of how simple it is to show appreciation for one another. How simple it is to work efficiently. How simple it is to band together.

The hard stuff is worth it. But so is the simple stuff. And in times like these, maybe even more so.

That’s where the good stuff is; behind it all.

An outlet is incredible when you plug something in, but the magic happens behind it all.

An organization can make a decision to support their team members through turmoil, but the remarkable element is behind the brand (as in, the people behind the brand).

Those three words we share with so few people can mean a lot, but it’s all that’s behind them that give it the weight.

Perhaps the solution to a problem on your to-fix list isn’t to give something a face-lift; it may mean that you have to change things behind it all.

Imagine if we let others know we appreciate them as much as we (now) wash our hands.

Imagine if we put as much energy to giving as many have hoarding.

Imagine if we shared stories of people caring for one another more than the media shares stories of people harming one another.

Like any ritual; it’s a choice.

Stay Positive & We Don’t Have To Imagine

Experience isn’t experience without it being different.

Which means to have more experience we need to:

Break status quo

Start a ruckus

Try something new

Learn from others, but create our own path.

Using someone’s recipe gets you the same results–for some that might be enough, but for others (you?), better results is the goal.
