It doesn’t matter if someone else’s logo is on it.
It doesn’t matter if someone else signs off on it later down the road.
It doesn’t matter who is working on it by your side.
If it’s work you’re doing; it’s yours.

Why Try To Get Out Of Your Box, When You Can Use What's In It?

If you’re unsure how the draft you’ve written is coming along, remind yourself of the target.
If you’re unsure how to craft that next piece of your marketing plan, think back to the target.
If you’re unsure how to design a space, view it through the eyes of your target.
Starting with the target in mind is actually the easy part.
The hard part is regularly going back to it as you learn, grow and try new things.

The conversations that happen in a room are influenced by the energy you bring into the room.
The experience a customer takes away from entering your shop deeply depends on the energy you’ve brought into the shop upon arriving.
The way an email will be perceived can change based on the energy you have when writing it.
As a wise kid I mentored told me: “You have to use your energy for good.”
And the best way to do that is to bring good energy everywhere you are.

There will be times that we need to just eat it.
It might be eating a cost that we never told our customer about.
It might be eating an apology about something that we know we’re not to blame for.
It might be eating a comment that we want to say but know will hurt another.
When we eat it versus serving it up for others, we build loyalty, trust, and care.

Facebook might be the popular platform to get a message out, but it might not be the right on.
An announcement before a movie starts has guaranteed exposure, but it might not be the right place for it.
The beautiful thing about the right platform–actually two beautiful things.
The first is that platforms can be tested to see if they are right for your message. Unless you choose reallllly poorly, the worst that can happen is people think of your message as an interruption and they forget about you moments later.
The second beautiful thing is that when it’s the right platform for a message, you know it’s the right platform for the message. People tell you they heard about you from X.
Until you have that happen, keep trying different platforms.
Extra: There are likely platforms you’ve never considered before. Neighborhood apps. Sketchy, but on-point forums. Reddit. The library. Etc.

Being jaded is another way of admitting defeat.
Jaded means you’re maybe not pleased with the situation, but you’re content with it.
Being jaded can leave you standing still.
If you find yourself saying “Or maybe I’m just jaded” then it’s worth thinking about the work differently.
What would happen if you were naive again? Or if you looked at things as glass-half full again? Or if you left the work to start something new jaded-free?
