Something To Give

Empty Shop

One habit of highly successful people is that they always have something to give – and they give it.

No matter who they are meeting, where or under what conditions, they have something with them to give.

It might be tangible like a beer or a pen or a check. It might also be something deeper like giving time to listen or a sense of comfort.

Before you head out the door, it’s worth making sure you’re bringing something to give.

Consistency

Pouring A Drink

The brands that we remember are the brands that keep consistent.

The people we rely on most are the ones who stay consistent.

The work that makes the most impact is the work we do consistently.

To those who are showing up every day, who stick to their values, who X … thank you.

To Think Differently, Write Differently

Taco Logo On Shirt

If you’re facing a problem that’s difficult to solve. Write about it in an email. Make it a freewrite. Just get the notes down.

Then if the solution doesn’t show itself there. Text your thoughts about a problem to a friend. (If anything, it’ll be fun when they ask what the hell you’re talking about.)

If that doesn’t work, get out a pad of paper and a pen and write it there.

We can be writing about the same problem across digital, phones and paper, but what gets shown will be vastly different because our brains think about things differently based on the medium we’re using.

People Are Everything

Working Together

The work is only meaningful because of the people it will impact.

The work becomes fun when you have awesome people by your side.

The work makes us feel fulfilled when it connects us with others.

The work sources it’s energy from the people behind it.

The work will always be the work. We owe it to ourselves to make sure we’re doing it beside the right people and for the right people.

Setting Expectations With Yourself

Quaint Poutine Business

If a runner expects herself to only run a 5k, but finds herself in a marathon, it’s not likely she’ll make it.

If an entrepreneur expects the work to ease up for a month, but reality sets in and he needs to put in the same amount of hours for another year – that’s a recipe for disaster.

One of the best actions we can take for ourselves is a mental one: Increase the expectation of the work it’s going to take.

Then, when it does require more effort, you’re not surprised or worse, defeated.

And when it doesn’t, you feel more relief than you would have if you had lower expectations.

If You Have To

Person Working Hard

Let’s first consider the things you don’t have to do.

They’re easier to not do, easier to postpone, easier to start and then stop.

But those things you have to do…They get done and done well. When something has to get done, we sorta become superhuman.

The trick then isn’t necessarily doing the work; it’s how to convince yourself you have to.

They Expect The Best

Two People Meeting

Every interaction, the person on the other side of the table is expecting the best of you.

Expectations are high.

Those most notable treat every interaction with the same gumption of meeting – or exceeding those expectations.

And nothing short of it.

How’s your streak going?
