Presence As A Present

Chocolatier

It’s one thing to walk into a chocolatier’s shop and order ghost pepper caramel chocolate squares from a clerk.

It’s another thing to walk into a chocolotier’s shop and order ghost pepper caramel chocolate squares from a clerk when the owner is there, beside the clerk, working on her next masterpiece.

Your presence can shift someone’s experience for the better.

Reminders

Person Working

Reminders never hurt – or shouldn’t if there’s positive intention behind them.

Reminders for yourself why you’re doing the work you’re doing.

Reminders for others that you’re putting their wants first.

Reminders to send the note, submit that project and share an appreciation with someone new to the team.

Sometimes we can get lost in action and what’s next.

Reminders can help keep us remain grounded (and positive) through it all.

Surround Yourself

People Laughing

Go ahead. Take control of all that’s around you.

Create a place of inspiration with knickknacks and reminders of what makes you happy.

Invest more time with people who make you laugh and elevate your ideas and status and heart. Find your Poilâne.

Dive into the hustle and adrenaline rush that comes with the work you do.

We have no reason to not surround ourselves with what’s important, what’s connective, and simply what makes us feel good.

The Ground Wire

Street Lamp TIpped Over

With electrical installations, the ground wire provides a conducting path to the earth, preventing a shock from occurring at the unit itself.

It’s not likely you would notice the ground wire is removed, especially if you’re careful with every action you take around the unit.

Our personal ground wires work a bit different.

While our personal ground wires provide the same out as an electrical ground wire, and while they make us feel safe and are there for us to prevent a shock from occurring, we miss them when they’re gone.

The other difference?

The shock they prevent for us is more than just a tiny second of physical pain.

Once you’ve found your ground wire. Hold onto them.

Does Everyone Really Need To Know?

Person Painting

It’s cheap and easy to inform everyone. The power of the internet has helped us there. But it begs the question of if everyone really needs to know about your thoughts, your relationship, your work, your struggles, your celebrations, your shower thoughts and your song lyrics.

That’s not to say no one needs to know, either. I firmly believe every ounce of ourselves we put out in the world can resonate and help someone else move forward in their own life.

But it’s our responsibility to reach the right people with each of our messages. Not everyone. Not no one. But some. Some of those who our work will resonate with.

Until It’s Ready

Working Men Waiting In A Store

There’s no shame in holding off launch until it’s ready, until it’s good enough, until you know you can support it.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should hide in the shadows until the day comes.

Rather, find ways to get out there early, to test the work, to drive greater awareness of your soon-to-launch idea.
