Escaping From What?

Sweet Escape

Everything good in life is an escape from something else.

We enjoy science fictions novels because it’s an escape from our reality and boarded-up imagination.

We enjoy bonfires because they’re an escape from the routine of an early night.

We enjoy hard labor when we work desk jobs and enjoy desk jobs when we work hard labor because it’s an escape from the daily grind.

It sort of begs the question: What are people escaping from when they choose you or your brand?

We can be there for others in a better way once we understand what they’re escaping from.

More Human

More Human

Mistakes are meaningful because they make us more human.

More human is a good thing because it’s less black and white, it’s less process, it’s less hiding and it’s less filtered.

Which is another way of saying non-corporate, authentic, big-hearted and meaningful.

Connect More

Connect More

If you want your business to succeed, connect with more people face-to-face.

If you want to excel in your work, connect with more people.

If you want customers to tell others, connect with with one another.

If you want more support for your idea, connect with those outside your industry.

If you want larger tips, connect more with each guest.

If you want to make a difference, you need to be connecting more–more to others and others to each other.

Stretching Or Stuck

Drive

When we first start out in our careers, we stretch.

We ask for more, speak up more, expect a raise or a promotion more quickly.

We’re always reaching to move up, get to that next step, show our worth.

And over time the stretching works. We move up, but then we’re satisfied and we stop stretching so much. Why would we after we stretched so much just to get here?

We may not feel stuck because we’re working horizontally, but we certainly stop stretching forward.

Is it time to find that drive again?

In Planning For Greece

Paths To Destination

There’s a good dozen ways to fly to Greece from Wisconsin.

Some save more money than others, some get you there more quickly.

Other flights make the flight as remarkable as the destination and some make you wish you were there already.

Same can be said for reaching whatever dream you have in mind. All it comes down to is prioritizing the trade offs of going one route over another.

The worst we can do is get overwhelmed by the options and never go.

Each path has its benefit.

Your First Day

Firsts

First days are usually a blur, and there’s something wrong with that.

First days are so quickly forgotten. They’re not memorable. They’re almost always about onboarding or process or sit and wait.

Yet we have happy hours for last days. We celebrate. We reflect on the great work we’ve done. It’s almost always about fun and freedom.

Not that they should be flipped, but shouldn’t the first day be a little more like the last? Something worth remembering, celebrating and fun?

Might be time to rethink the experience we have for those interested in choosing us.

Given Credit

Credit Given

The whole idea around needing to ship something every day, behind giving every day and with not resting on your laurels is that so few will give you credit for what you did yesterday.

What matters are the signals you send about the change you seek to make today.

That’s why repetition is key no matter how long you’ve been going at it. It’s why it’s worth choosing a mission that you can energize yourself with tomorrow and the day after and the day after.

Those who try to attach themselves with actions they’ve taken in the past become it.
