Places You’d Rather Avoid

Aside from a haunted house or a bar that looks like its roof is going to cave in any moment, it’s in our best interest to go to places we’d rather avoid.

This could be physical locations; ones of different culture or that have different offerings than we’re used to.

It could mean emotional states; ones that put us accountable or vulnerable or outside our comfort zone.

The magic doesn’t just happen once you’re there, it flows well beyond.

Do They Want To Follow Up?

There are two kinds of word of mouth.

There’s the remarkability of what you offer in the sense that people will want to talk to others about it.

Then there’s the remarkability of what you offer in the sense that people want to come back to you for more.

That is the goal right–to keep them coming back?

The more dialogue you have, the more trust you craft and the greater the chance they tell others about you, too.

Golden Contributors

New platforms and communities are popping up every day. There are more ways to create something and to publish and share it with the world.

One thing is absolutely true about the golden contributors of the next platform: you can’t predict them.

People who never created before are. People who have been creating for ages stop. People who think there isn’t an audience for their content find them. People who think there is an audience for their content find there’s not.

Unpredictability at its largest.

Your chances of being the next golden contributor are as good as anyone else’s.

Assuming, that is, you contribute.

Habit Effort

Whether you’re wanting to start a habit or break one, there’s only one requirement: effort.

And effort is something you can make at any time, anywhere.

Anything short of putting in the effort is merely an excuse to hold on to a habit or hold off starting one.

Down Time

What people do with their up time changes the world.

I’d argue, that what people do with their down time changes it even more.

A lot more energy is put into it, a lot more flow, a lot more community and a lot more care.

Which is why it’s important to take inventory of the down time.

Not Worth Your Time

We’re terrible at making the call on things that are not worth our time.

It’s usually after we’re too far in or wasted too much or merely face so much adversity that it’s a great cop out.

But we don’t say it for a lot of things we should.

For things that waste time. For building skills we’ll never meaningfully use. For relationships with dead ends.

You can decide sooner that something isn’t worth your time.

It’s better when you do, because that gives you more time to give to something that is worth it.
