A well-curated Instagram profile can look amazing and send a strong signal of professionalism and care.
A nursery, all decked out in one specific theme, can send a signal of determination, thoughtfulness and care, too.
Yet, then there are thousands of businesses running their Instagam accounts without a visual theme and millions of parents raising children without a consistent nursery theme – both businesses and parents are successful, too.
What gives?
I’ll tell ya: It’s about those who make promises and show up regularly.
A theme is a nice way to help people categorize you in their heads, but it’s not the game changer for them to become a loyalist to your brand or for your children to grow up in a positive household.
Looks can matter, but not as much as making promises and showing up does.
There are two wonderful levers that we can work to pull to make someone’s day, to turn a customer into a loyal one, to retain a subscriber, to keep a friend, to support an employee…
We can work each day to remove the doubts they inevitably have.
They might wake up excited, perhaps, but they also wake up worried and nervous or frustrated and stressed. If we can listen, pay attention and respond appropriately, we can remove the doubts from their day and help them reach their fullest potential.
And after today. We do it again tomorrow, knowing the doubts might be different.
That’s the internal lever.
Then there’s a point about status – the external lever.
A compliment might make someone feel good, but a compliment made to someone in front of a dozen others – THAT’S a game changer.
We can work each day to recognize, acknowledge and perhaps increase another’s status. To do this, though, we need to involve ourselves in their community and in their tribe.
Only then can we help double down on their status.
