It’ll Be Different

Old Truck Made New

Even when you follow the instructions, the end product is different than the one before it.

No matter how much of a foundation you’ve built from past experiences, the same scenarios will be different.

And if it’s not different, then improvements weren’t made, leaps weren’t made, the edge wasn’t found. Try again.

Imperfection Is A Gold Mine

Woman Making Pottery

When something doesn’t land perfectly, it’s not a failure.

It’s an opportunity to learn what did and didn’t work and then to try again with that knowledge.

Some things you ship might last forever in the world – imperfect.

But the artist doesn’t care. The linchpin is off creating better work.

Ship enough work and the faults of your past will be buried with better work, anyway.

Authenticity Is Fluid

Person Walking

We may look back to past decisions we made and think that we should have made them differently even though at the time we felt the decision was authentic.

Authenticity is something we shape and form over time. We try different versions of it on and hold tight to what we feel works.

It’s all part of the legacy we’re working to make.

But sometimes authenticity is a word thrown around to support work that’s actually not grounded in the legacy that brand or group or person is trying to make. For better and worse, your authentic self and my authentic self is not the same as any brand’s authentic self. It might be close, but not the same.

So, a challenge.

When you hear talk about authenticity, it’s worth double checking whose authenticity is being talked about. Inconsistency leads to the demise of legacy. Yours. Mind. A brands.

Immediate Understanding

Person On Unique Skateboard

When it comes to a launch date, there should be immediate understanding from all those involved and all those looking to purchase or use what you’re launching.

Where immediate understanding isn’t welcome is at the start.

If the book title is the same as others. If the project is just like another. If the idea is immediately understood. Then we’re not leaping far enough.

Take Away The Doubt

Bright Side Sign In Coffee Shop

Doubt is the enemy of any business.

Not solely in the owner or leader of a tribe, but in all those who show up.

Remove the doubt and you reveal a bridge to loyalty.

Take away the doubt of when you’re open, how fast you’ll respond to emails, what the cost is, if the cost is worth it.

It takes a lot of communication to do. Essentially, you’re making a thousand promises.

And that’s a good thing. We need you to. Your tribe needs you to.

Because they like living without doubt.

Something Is Something

Shoe, Hat, Shirt Products

The worst thing we can do for our business is to not show up.

The worst thing we can do for our team is to not bring anything to the meeting.

The worst thing we can do for our project is to not start.

Written differently.

The best thing we can do for our business is to show up.

The best thing we can do for our team is to bring ideas to the meeting.

The best thing we can do for our project is to start.

Something is something. It moves the needle. It gives others something to respond to and build from. Something signals progress and makes us feel fulfilled.

It doesn’t need to be everything. Nor perfect. Just something.

“Here’s something I made.” is a powerful phrase.

Are you using it enough?
