Learn It And They Will Look To You

Person Teaching

Most of the things we need to learn and don’t want to are for the greater good.

We do it because our place of work uses this platform instead of that platform. We do it because the family had friends tell them how good this food is from that food. We do it because someone paid for it and now we feel like we owe them our attempt to learn.

It, of course, can mean a lot of things. From platforms to recipes to tools to code to writing a book.

What oft goes forgotten is that once something is learned others will seek you out to teach.

Even more than that is we forget how good it feels to teach someone. To be the source of what brings them to the next level, gives them encourage, and offers them a safe space to grow.

There’s more of a reward to learning something than the success of learning it.

Carved Time

Working On Art

Carved time works because it’s made with intention and motivation and accountability. Carving time out to take care of business means you’re removing distractions (or ignoring them). Carved time is an art.

Funny thing is that spare time works just as effectively. Time free. Time with open space for creativity. Time received as a gift that we’ll make the most of.

All time is no time if time is past.

A Little More Vulnerable

Person In A Field

A little goes a long way when it comes to vulnerability.

Vulnerability in a meeting or when trying something we’ve never done before.

Vulnerability in sharing something about ourselves we wouldn’t normally.

Sure, there might be a point where vulnerability can be overdone, but more often than not, it’s underdone.

Trial & Error

Artwork On A Wall

Trial and error doesn’t have a period at the end of it. It’s not a one and done tactic. It’s a long-term strategy.

The only way for trial and error to be effective is to to learn from your errors and begin another trial.

But, it’s understandable that no one wants to say “you oughta work from trial and error and trial and error and trial and error and trial and error and trial and error….”.

Then again, maybe we should.

Experiment Time

Woman Happily Cooking

Down time shouldn’t be a thing. Instead it ought to be experiment time.

Time to try something totally new. Time to be energized by what’s possible. Time to create something you would never have if you didn’t suddenly have the time.

Note: Experiment time doens’t mean you need to have something of value at the end of it. It’s merely that you have something even if it’s just a fun memory (which I’d argue is value anyway).

What Will You Achieve Today?

Person Dancing Outside

A day without fulfillment is a day wasted.

We may get stuff done during the day, but a checked off to-do list doesn’t always equate to feeling fulfilled at the end of the day.

Fulfillment is tied to achievement; completing something we’re emotionally attached to, driven by and will undoubtedly feel gratification upon finishing.

The direction is simple, then. Ensure you’ll achieve a task today, ensure you’ll feel fulfilled.

Evolution And Consistency

Artist At Work

Sometimes going cold turkey works to move you ahead. Sometimes a massive transformation or fresh start is what’s needed. Starting from scratch might be what will give you the competitive advantage.

But more likely is that you simply need to keep showing up and pivoting slightly.

Evolving based on what people want and need while being there for them time and time again is far more heroic than starting from a clean slate.

Far more appreciated, valued and trusted, too.
