Someone To Tell You

Someone On Zoom Call

For the most part, we know if something is right or wrong.

We know if something we write is full of empathy or not.

We know if we should take the leap or not.

But, damn does it feel good when someone else is there to tell us what we already know.

Call it reassurance or confirmation; it may be all we need to take the step we’ve hesitated on.

The hard part, then, is making sure you have the right people around you; someone to tell you to do the right thing; that you’re writing could have more empathy; that you should leap.

Less Weight

Bright View Of Forest

We’ve been running around with a lot of weight on our shoulders for some time.

Every pound we drop off enables us to run faster, longer; we can breathe better, we smile more.

It might not be deadweight, but there’s certainly weight we can toss.

You’ve probably started to do it, already. You’re working more efficiently, you’re connecting with more people who care, and you’re doing more of what makes you happy.

On The Other Side

Door With Stickers On It

There’s this opportunity in front of us to decide how we want things on the other side.

It’s a chance to see how we feel about working differently; a chance to see if that hobby we had an eye on is actually something fulfilling; a chance to have more meaningful conversations with people.

It’s rare to be handed free-time or flexibility; under normal circumstances, we have to make it ourselves.

Yesterday was a great day to call a friend, write a letter, try a new activity, do work more efficiently, remind your significant other just how much you care about them, make the bed, play an instrument and join the others.

Today’s a great day, too.

Left Turns

Plant growing To The Left On Wall

We’ve made quite the left turn as a community, but that’s a good thing.

Left turns are exciting. They keep people engaged, invested and in conversation.

Left turns make us feel in control even if everything is uncertain.

Left turns can be surprising, but they bring good energy because we often don’t make a left turn alone–we have others with us.

Things Won’t Stay The Same

Record On Repeat

“Is this going to change when this is over?”

Of course it’s going to change, but two things:

It’s not going to go be back to how things were before all of this. It can’t. It won’t. We all got a taste of what remote work, digital evolution, free time, unemployment, etc. is like. Some have found they can make these drastic shifts work and others who are going to overcorrect once able. We’re excited get closer to how things were, but still different.

It’s also not going to stay the same. The way we’re working, interacting socially, eating and supporting businesses isn’t sustainable. It also carries a negative weight because of the reason we’re working this way in the first place. Remote work will be dialed back, we’ll have fewer digital happy hours and we’ll all get back to striving than surviving. We’re excited to make it ours again.

Hearts are opening around what we can do with our current situation.

I’m excited to see how our hearts open up with how we’ll carry forward when the choice ours again.

A Walk

Shoes With Fun Socks

Fresh air helps.

You may not see as many people out there, but there’s still plenty to see; simply look up when walking.

A mental break can be beneficial to working through a challenge or to become content with a situation.

You may not need help or a fancy tool or to “just deal with it.”

A walk may be all you need.

Taking Control

Steady Control

Control can be a good thing. And there’s more that we can take control over than we often think.

We can take control over our emotions and feelings.

Our thoughts, too.

We can take control of learning something new, teaching someone something. We can take control over finding out how to add more value to our communities. We can take control over helping others.

Control is there. We just need to take it.
