A Very Important Question

Looking Up Motivation

Here’s a question you could spend 15 minutes meditating on.

What’s the biggest motivation for you right now?

The thinking you go through for your answer is almost as powerful as the answer itself.

For me, my answer involves aspiration and pride. It makes me think of being the person someone special could love and be proud of.

It’s powerful stuff if you’re willing to revel in it.

New Habits

New Habit

If you tried starting a new habit last week, it’s unlikely you would have kept up with it.

Same could be said for trying to start a habit with the summer solstice or St. Patrick’s Day or your grandmother’s birthday.

But new years, new years is an opportunity like no other for the next 364 days.

Sure, the first best time to start whatever habit you’re considering was years ago. But today is (truly) the next best time. (HT Daniel)

Minimum Viable Audience

Minimum Viable Audience

It’s not about how small you can make your audience; it’s about how small you can make your largest audience.

Your restaurant may only be able to hold 200 people. So who are those 200? Be choosy.

To meet your goal of making a passive $20k per year, you may only need 600 people to subscribe to your live stream. How would you define the best 600?

And to get your name on a ballot and win, you may only need 10 people to tell 10 other people. You’ll want to choose those first 10 wisely.

So who are those people? The one’s who you can care for, nurture and who will help you succeed.

Driven

Market Driven

You pretty much have to be driven if you plan to succeed. Very few accomplish much from the spectator seats. But what kind of driven do you plan to be?

Are you marketing driven? Focused on the flash and the grand opening and optimizing sales?

Are you market driven? Focused on the needs of some and listening to the stories they tell?

Hard to be both. Better to lean into one or the other and own it.

Indecision

Indecision

The reason indecision is so harrowing is that it means you’re standing still, it means non-action, it means you’re not moving forward.

With the knowledge you have now, decide.

Then learn from it. There’s a 100 percent chance you’ll have the opportunity to decide again in the future. Don’t let this decision stop you from moving forward toward the next.

In Search Of Joy

Finding Joy

The easy-to-find joy is in the moments of progress and achievement and forward leaps.

Opening your doors, launching a new product, and hiring someone all bring a special feeling of joy.

Those moments, however, are short-lived, because after them it’s back to the race.

Better to search for the joy in planning and in clean-up, in prep and in reflection, in lining up the ducks and in collecting them all over again.

Doing More

More For Them

By doing more, we often reap more rewards.

But it’s worth questioning who we are doing more for.

Some brands do more for themselves. They might see some rewards in the near future for it, but no chance they’ll be sustained.

Other brands, the one’s we’re loyal to, do more for us, the customer. They’re in it for the long haul (and we are, too, if they keep treating us well).

When it’s time to consider a new tactic, special, event, happy hour, product; it’s worth asking who it’s for.
