A quick way to get ahead of competition is to simply be better.
A quick way to be better is not to do more of what your competitors are already doing.
Rather, cut the time you’re doing what they are in half and invest it into doing what they aren’t.
I’d bet they’re not caring as much about people, quality or how it is delivered, whatever it is.

Of course we don’t want to let it go. It’s ours now. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. We own it.
Letting it go means we would have to change, to be uncomfortable again.
Letting it go means there’s space for something new and maybe something worse.
So we hold on. We try to live with it. But over time. It weighs us down. We stand still.
And you know what happens to those who stand still.

Opportunities are out there. There’s no doubt about it.
Yes, even the very specific opportunities you would love to be offered.
Of course, opportunities have a bit of an ego problem. They’re not willing to come to you. Often times, they don’t even meet half way. In fact, they sometimes don’t feel like opportunities at all because you have to work so hard to get them.
But that’s the true opportunity. The opportunity to leap.
Most of the greatest projects you’ve seen people create have been because they looked around, reached out and took the leap.

I was out with a friend earlier and was reminded of a universal truth.
“That’s life. You’ve gotta have the door slammed in your face a few times.”
In another moment with a president of a marketing firm, he was sharing the times in his career he was most proud of. Two of the four experiences he shared were door-slamming moments when he was dealt a poor hand and had to face adversity.
It’s true that some of the positive experiences we have have a positive influence on us. More often than not, though, it’s the negative experiences that have the most positive impact.
