Infinity

Infinity

You’re swimming in a sea of infinity. There’s always something more you can do.

One more email to send. One more social network to check. Review the script once more.

And when you’re done, it can be onto the next one. The key, then, is to ensure you’re doing what you love; that it’s not a grind or a hassle or a nuisance. Instead, it’s a pleasure, a dance, a privilege.

Filter It

filter

There’s no reason not to filter any work that you’re going to send out into the world.

Not dumbing down the work, but refining it. Not editing it, but proofing it.

Something might be remarkable, but that doesn’t mean it’s relevant.

That’s why you need a filter.

What Makes You Remarkable Instead Of Amateur

Artist

The difference between an amateur artist and a remarkable one is an amateur artist paints to showcase their skills and worldviews and passion. A remarkable artist paints to showcase the skills, worldviews and passion of those who will see it.

Learning In A Different Way

Growing

You want to grow fast, learn quick, fit into bigger shoes.

You want a promotion, a raise, a greater challenge.

The obvious path to get there is the one you’re on. You just need to put in longer hours, work harder, and focus more.

The obvious path, of course, isn’t always the best one. Consider learning a different way. Freelancing. Reading. Blogging daily.

There’s more than one path to get better at your muse.

Keeping Connected

Keeping Connected

If you were to meet someone amazing at an event, there’s no chance you’d walk away without getting their contact info, right?

The same situation occurs with businesses every day. The only twist is that it’s the owners responsibility to gather contact info for those who are amazed at the product or service.

You’re doing it wrong if you’re waiting for others to keep connected with you.

Permission To Grow

Permission To Grow

One of the smartest spaces any business owner (you?) can create is a space to learn. In essence, to give your employees permission to grow. It sounds obvious, but it’s not all that common.

Many bosses and owners expect perfection and it’s easy for them to give work to those they know can get it done expertly instead of someone who it’s challenging for. There’s a certain risk associated with someone who might not have done a specific task before. Of course, that’s no reason not to assign it, but not everyone thinks that way.

The truth of it all is that company culture is hurt when there’s not permission to grow. Opportunity for growth is a serious component to employee happiness and retention.

The challenge, then, is to find that happy medium of having those experts on deck while also having those who have room to grow; by trusting them to stretch themselves on a tough task, by ensuring that the experts are there to mentor them, by caring enough to give them permission to suck, too.

A Similar Decision

Similar Decisions

The smartest marketing doesn’t work to influence someone to make a decision they would have never thought of making.

It’s not about taking someone completely out of their comfort zone. Rather, it’s about showing a decision is not as far off as they might have thought.

In fact, it’s similar to another decision they’re making.

Many charities get others to donate by saying they could give five dollars and skip their Starbucks run tomorrow.

Target says Justin’s says it’s like a peanut butter cup, but it’s made to matter.

The farmer’s market touts it’s just like going to the grocery store, but you’re getting local food and supporting the community at the same time.

Like any good conversation, you’ve got to make a connection, point out something similar, already understood, a decision one already makes before you can get someone to switch, to try, to change their ways.
