You Own The Clock

A keg blows in the middle of a pour. Foam, a cough of air, then nothing. The guy waiting on that beer has a table, a friend, and a plan for the next forty minutes, and not one piece of it knows what just happened on my side of the taps. My night reorganizes itself in about nine seconds. His doesn’t move at all.

Two clocks, same room, both correct.

A lot of what grinds people down is the quiet decision to run on the wrong one. So here is the list. No story underneath it, no metaphor to unpack.

If you’re tired, sleep.

If you’re hungry, eat.

If you’re in the flow, keep writing.

If you miss someone, reach out.

If the draft is useful, publish it.

If you already know the answer, stop researching.

If someone did good work, tell them today.

Their schedule is not your schedule.

If the meeting made its point, end it.

If you’re bored writing it, they’re bored reading it.

If the beer’s flat, dump it.

If you don’t know why you’re in the room, leave the room.

If the campaign is dead, kill it.

If a customer tells you what they want, listen to the second thing they say.

If you owe an apology, pay it now.

If you’re grieving, grieve.

Stay Positive & Their Schedule Is Not Your Schedule…It Never Was
