IN THE BOX PODCAST

We’re finally here! Michael and I have recorded a handful of episodes over the last month, and we’re ready to launch!

In The Box Podcast is where we take ideas to the edge of reality, we question motives, we search for answers under unturned rocks, and we think about things differently.

The way we roll with the podcast is we have 6 themes and one question for each, which Michael and I split between the two of us. You’ll learn in the second or third podcast that Michael and I don’t know too much about each other. We had a class together in college, which at the end of we would chat, usually resulting with a deep conversation and concluding with some form of enlightenment. Okay, maybe enlightenment is too strong of a word. Basically we have awesome conversations that we think you’ll enjoy. You can let us know if you do by rating our podcast in iTunes.

Marketing Close To Pain

Remarkable Or Pain

When someone is in pain, they’ll do anything and everything for relief, and if you’re in the business of relief, the more you can charge.

Pain is a strong word, but then again, so is need, which is exactly what marketers place themselves in a position to fulfill.

It blows my mind how any podcaster can charge $1,100 a month for a podcast webinar series. It’s crazy how much some marketing conferences cost.

Likewise, it’s never exciting to hear the burger at the airport is $15 or the beer at a hotel bar is $9 a bottle. Yet, owners and businesspeople and marketers and podcasters alike can charge that much because they are in the proximity of pain.

The marketers who invest in the podcast webinar series are in desperate need to get to the top. The starving traveller, well, is starving.

Want to charge more for your product or service? Get closer to the pain, the need.

Or… or… go to the other end, the end of desire and passion and love. The end of connection and bragging and giving.

You have two options. Sell a mediocre burger for an outrageous amount because you’re close to the pain or sell a remarkable burger for a price that matches its value (sometimes even less because it’s a burger you want people to talk about, an experience you want them to partake in, and joy you want to share).

Fortunately for you the market for remarkable is wide-open, there are people there waiting to be blown away with an experience. The market for pain, however, is crowded. Good luck getting in there.

 

Stay Positive & Yes, Fulfill A Need, But Know Which Need You’re Fulfilling First

Numbing Emotions

There’s actually no way you can. You can hide them but they don’t play that game very well. By default emotions do the seeking. You can fake them, and sure, sometimes you fake it until you make it, but rarely.

Rarely because emotions are the effervescence of your pursuit. It’s not the way you painted the portrait that an observers falls in love with, it’s the emotion that they can see was put into it.

On the other side of the spectrum, you can’t numb the negative emotions of vulnerability, of being rejected, of getting criticism that you couldn’t handle. And that’s okay.

The way I see it is this: falling down doesn’t cease the pain.

The only options you have are to either keep creating art despite how much it may hurt or to find a new way to make better art by leveraging your emotions. You may not be able to numb them, but you can always leverage them.

The Real Inconvenient Truth Of What Matters

It won’t be easy. In fact, it will only ever get harder.

You’re going to be knocked down. Repetitively.

And you will always get back up. Because one day you will break through and bask in glory. You will laugh or cry – or both – while you look back at all you had to go through to get where you finally are.

Will the pain ever be convenient? Of course not. It will never be.

Will it be worth it? Of course. Always.

Too Much Pull

To spring forward, you have to be pulled back.

But life is a lot like a rubber band. You pull too much and it snaps.You pull too little and you don’t get anywhere. However, it’s worth noting that by not pulling, you have nothing to show, nothing learned, nothing created.

The point where the analogy ceases is that while you may have one life to live, you do have an extensive supply of rubber bands. It’s better to have a hundred snap than none at all.

Life for most is a lot about finding balance, equivocally, everything in moderation. But you know, life isn’t that simple, so if you’re going to lean towards being someone who stands still or being someone who feels the sting of a snapped rubber band. I think you know the better choice.

The sting is only temporary. The vexation of standing still, that’s eternal.
