“Really, Though, If You Had To Choose X Or Y…”

You can choose not to play that game.

A kerfuffle occurred this morning with a coworker and myself. I stated I didn’t want to take the couch my parents were willing to give me because I wanted to buy a new, more functional, appealing and comfortable one.

Have you ever met someone who likes to sporadically get you to play a game of Would You Rather? Here was his response.

“Would you rather have a new couch or go on a short road trip?”

I chose both.

He’s choosing to play the game. I’m not. A lot of games, this one in particular, are mentally and ambitiously crippling. When you choose to play, I see it as eliminating a possibility in your mind to get what you want in the real world. Forcing yourself to choose is self-limitation.

For those who want you to choose between X or Y, let them play with themselves.

Customers First

At the expense of your employees, though? You will stay open on holidays for the customers, but customers can only be as happy as the employees can make them.

Headsup: happy people make other people happy.

Frustrated, sad, aggravated employees have a tough time making others happy… no matter if they get time and a half.

There’s no right answer. It’s a dance.

Momentum-able

It’s the latest key in developing a successful project. Does each action you take increase the pace of your next step?

The quickest way to deal with setbacks is to be moving forward too quickly to actually be set back.

Not saying it’s easy, but it’s worth it.

My 1,000th Blog Post

The only “lock-in” from any transaction should come from the face behind the business, not the customer; the professional, not the client; the author, not the reader.

I’m writing to remind you I’m here for the long run. That’s my promise.

After all, many years down the line, how else will I get to say “I’ve been doing/writing/studying this for 50 years.”

I’m here, I’m learning and I’m thankful you’re along for the ride.

Breaking Down Your Startup To Get Fully Funded

The most successful Kickstarter projects are funded for between $1,000 and $9,999. If you have determined it will cost $25,000 to get your startup going, is it worth pitching something that only adds up to 10 percent of all successfully funded projects?

Perhaps it’s better to break you startup down into pieces that can fundamentally work alone and only require between $1,000 and $9,999 of investment per piece. Not only does it make it easier for you to get community funding (low investment on their part), it also allows you to make sure every leg, arm and torso of your startup works properly.

In addition, for the public it also plots out exactly what you offer. Instead of selling it as a package (you will once all parts are funded), you get to sell each individual part of your product or service. Now the public has become a part of the process. If they’ve invested in the leg of your startup, it is in their best interest to invest in the arm too.

If you can get angels to invest in the whole of your startup, fantastic. If you find it difficult, it might be better to dismember your startup and get support for each piece. In the long run, you find out quicker (and with less personal investment) what works and what doesn’t. You just may find out you need a bionic arm, not a flaccid organic one.

Beautiful Work Of The (Success) Domino Effect

When you do things you love, you have more time to do things you love, when you spend that time doing more things you love, you strengthen your self-discipline, when you practice self-discipline, your self-esteem goes up, when your self-esteem goes up, you like and respect yourself more. Can you guess what you do when you like and respect yourself more? You do more things you love.

Do You Know What Sacrifice Is

You’ve sacrificed A for B, this for that, your money for the chance to get it back ten-fold, your time for the money you save not hiring someone else to do it. If you give something up for something you will benefit more from, is that a sacrifice? Or is calling it a sacrifice just having a poor perspective on the situation?

If you choose to stay up late to work on your startup, that’s not a sacrifice, it’s a smart choice.

If you choose to quit eating out so often so you can by a new camera for your photography project, that’s not a sacrifice, it’s a worthy decision.

Next time you say you’re making a sacrifice, really think about it.
